I was going to write a lengthy post about this photo that I took recently and paintings by Mary Cassatt. You know, stuff about unorthodox composition and observation of private, tender moments. But I'll just be quiet instead.

Sometimes I get really caught up in technicalities - will my third subject be out of focus with this aperture? is the flare too much? what ISO should I be shooting at? I forget that photography is about capturing moments in time that would otherwise pass by in an undocumented instant...and if you're too absorbed in getting everything right, you miss a lot of those moments. There can be a wild randomness to photography if you have the confidence to allow for it. As an artist, Marcelo Gomes' images remind me "play" with light - not just control it - and have more fun with my art.

Apparently, pickling your own vegetables (along with making your own sausage and home-infused spirits) is a really big thing right now. I thought it was because my personal chef boyfriend needed a project and had a surplus of Kerr jars. (!) Of all his pickling, this jar is my favorite to look at because of the garnet hues and the lovely little spheres that are pearl onions.

Yes, I'd say this relationchef (thank you, Apron Anxiety, for the term) is going quite well.
My grandmother taught me a lot about modern design, especially furniture, and in my 20's, I became sort of obsessed with mid-century modernist stuff. Chairs in the forties were designed differently and for, it would seem, slightly smaller people. But this Womb Chair, as its designer Eero Saarinen called it, is quite possibly the most comfortable chair I've ever experienced. And it looks really really cool.
