Chicago, as seen from the Trump Tower.
(I wish the sky had been a bit more dramatic - not white! - but getting the El in the midst of the buildings was paramount.)
In Focus: Tasteful Pictures at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles takes viewers through the ages of food photography, from the 19th century still-life influenced works up to the modern-day phenomenon of cell-phone-photographing (nearly) everything one eats.
Above, Edward Quigley's Peas in a Pod, circa 1935. (I am totally inspired by the simple geometry here. Hmmm...what can I shoot like this?)
See how editorial and studio images of food provide commentary and insight into artistic, social, and technological goings-on over the decades.
Above, Weegee's (Arthur Fellig) Bagels, Second Avenue, circa 1940.
I am sort of glad I am not running around taking photos somewhere today because it is insanely hot and humid. Too hot to have the stove or oven turned on. But we still have to eat. So we chop and mix...
a lot of fresh basil (herbal and fragrant) + French goat cheese (firm and salty) + cherry tomatoes (sweet and juicy)...
...equals wonderful. It needs some balsamic vinegar, pepper, and olive oil. Add some arugula if you need your greens.
Sugar snap peas are fairly easy to grow. In this instance, I threw some seeds in a pretty ceramic pot, watered, waited, told them they were strong and beautiful (yes, I did!)...and now we have a tiny harvest.

As a foodie and someone who loves eating out, I feel compelled to put forth a bit of a rant. Please take a moment to read this from the the Diner's Journal, which echoes my personal peeve.
