I am not a cupcake girl. But if I'm going to eat one, it's gonna be a gluten-free vanilla cupcake from Southport Grocery and Café. It's made with rice flour, which seems to yield a lighter and fluffier cake than wheat flour. Above: their wedding cupcakes.

These were taken a few years ago when I started this series to document my version of midwestern suburban life. My inspiration is photographer Tina Barney and her book Theater of Manners. Though I do not have much on common with Ms. Barney, I like the intimacy and candid presentation of her subject matter.
